Seven years ago today was the last time I actually spoke with my mom. A real conversation that we both understood. The next day she stopped speaking for the most part, a word here and there was all she said. The day after that, my mom died.
Here is a poem that came to me about today.
Today,
the last day I spoke to you,
our last real conversation,
but that was 7 years ago.
Today,
the last time I heard you say
I love you.
For seven years I’ve longed to hear those words again.
Today,
if I could only go back,
there’s so much to tell you.
I missed my opportunity seven years ago
Today,
my heart aches with loss
as I remember the sound of your voice,
seven years ago.
Today,
sadness fills every space in me,
just as it did
seven years ago.
Today,
I hope you know, Mom,
I love you just as much as I did
seven years ago.
She’s very proud of you ! Your a great mother because of who she is and how she brought you up! 🙏🏼❤️❤️ God bless her sweet soul and may she rest in peace ! She’s in a better place.

Thank you. I miss her every day, but I am grateful she’s not suffering anymore.

I’m sorry. That’s how my daughter feels. She was 2 when my mom died, so she only knows her through my stories.

I pray that God continues to mend your broken heart. I wrote a similar piece a few days ago entitled “Did You Get It?”. Grief can be so overwhelming, but in time, the pain does subside.

You’re right. The pain lessens, things get easier, grief subsides. It’s this time of year and all the memories that come with it that bring back the pain and grief. Thanks for commenting.
